Description
Depicted is a stencil for printing a Japanese family crest (known as kamon) that onto textiles and that was created during the Meiji period (1868-1912). I have added additional characters and calligraphy and textures to embellish the piece, while still retaining the feeling of age and use.
The kamon (which can be thought of as an emblem, a business or family crest or logo) identifies a family’s lineage, a business’ logo, or an individual.
