Artist's Description
I found this towhee in a part of the yard that is fenced off from animals, and so he has remained undisturbed from the time of his death. Since there was no pile of feathers nearby, a sign of a hawk attack, I like to think he died a natural death, simply falling from the sky one day. Perhaps I’ll bury him under a patch of daisies, something he can “push up” year after year.
About Carol Leigh
I'm a photographer, writer, educator based on Whidbey Island in the Pacific Northwest, specializing in photomontage work, combining photos I've taken of rust, walls, peeling paint, birds, postage stamps, trees, etc. into images that are completely new, different, and often weird. I also create physical collages, then find myself photographing parts of them to include in my photomontages. It's crazy, but it's fun! My career has encompassed writing guidebooks (primarily about where to photograph in California), newsletters (guides for photographers about where to photograph in the United States), leading photo workshops, and conducting online classes. VERY Interesting Carol! Following your work! ~Anne
Carol Leigh replied:
Well, thank you very much, Anne! And it IS kind of interesting, isn't it? By the way, I learned to ice skate at Washington Crossing State Park! Wishing you continued success with your photography -- it's lovely.

Laura, I'm so glad you love it and thanks for letting me know. You're putting it in the bathroom? How about on a shower curtain! Ha ha! A six-foot-high deceased bird? Yeah, right. Again, so happy you're pleased. Continued success with your workshops, your art, your life. And oh, yeah, with "the husband."

Hi there Carol, I wanted to let you know I received my print and I just love it and some day when the husband finished the bathroom...seems like it's always motorcycle season...I will hang it in my bathroom.

I love towhees, and this is such a fitting reminder of the brief time they spend with us, doing the job they were designed for, and cheering us at the same time. This is eloquent in its composition and I'm very glad you made a memorial out of it. Well done! Rebecca
Carol Leigh replied:
Rebecca, thank you so much for your kind message. Nice to know there are kindred souls out there who feel the same way about this as I. Towhees are great birds, and I like watching them do the (what I call) "towhee shuffle" as they scrabble about for food. A collage artist friend of mine bought a print last night, so now we know there are at least three of "us!" Thanks again. Carol Leigh
