Artist's Description
I think that art is simply about solving problems. In my case, I begin with a photograph, then wonder what if I do this, what if I do that, then see what I get, which leads me to adding something else, trying some more effects, and so on, FOR HOURS ON END! In this case, the final image didn't please me. I wanted to have a certain look, but couldn't figure out how to get it. After another few hours of experimenting, doing online research, and asking friends, I resolved the issue and here's the result. Whew!
This picture combines my photos of train graffiti, the side of a building, various handpainted papers, signs, ink, and more. I like the weathered and textured look, the warm colors, the subtle chalk-like arrows that point the way to the faded Coca-Cola sign on the right. And now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to bed!

I'm a photographer, writer, educator based on Whidbey Island in the Pacific Northwest, specializing in photomontage work, combining photos I've taken of rust, walls, peeling paint, birds, postage stamps, trees, etc. into images that are completely new, different, and often weird. I also create physical collages, then find myself photographing parts of them to include in my photomontages. It's crazy, but it's fun!
